Weight loss & Reconstructive Surgery.
PROCEDURES
Gastric Sleeve
A Restrictive surgery, It is a surgical procedure that favors weight loss by restricting the amount of food that the patient can consume.
TECHNIQUE
The gastric sleeve is a restrictive surgery, which is performed by laparoscopic surgery, where the capacity of the stomach is decreased approximately from 70% to 80%, this considerably reducing the patient's food intake.
The surgery is normally performed using a small camera that is placed on the abdomen and divides the stomach into two sections, where the surgeon Dr. Garcia removes a section of the stomach and uses an endoscopic stapler this in combination with traditional stitches to seal each section of the stomach.
The removed section is the bottom of the stomach, which is the area where the appetite-regulating hormone called ghrelin is found.
RESULTS
Well this depends on each of the patients, but the approximate time is in the first week after surgery.
Weight loss after surgery varies from person to person. Most patients manage to reduce between 70 and 80% of excess weight within the first 2 years out from surgery.
The results are almost immediate, but the time to achieve a more noticeable weight loss is approximately 12 to 18 months, depending on the discipline of each patient.
CANDIDATES
Age is one of the factors to consider as well as the aspect of the patient's health, however this surgery (gastric sleeve) can be performed in adolescents as well as in patients older than 55 years with excellent results, and with a great impact beneficial in the health of the patient.
SURGICAL TIME
The surgery time is approximately 1.5 hrs.
HOSPITAL STAY
Hospital stay will be 2 nights.
HEALTH BENEFITS
More than 70 to 80% of patients with hypertension may dispense with medications in the short term and more than 90% of patients with non-insulin-dependent type II diabetes may also discontinue them. Like complications of obesity, they will dramatically improve or disappear such as: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnea, gastroesophageal reflux, asthma, joint pain, arthritis, fatigue, psychological problems, and difficulty breathing (dyspnea).
WEIGHT RE-GAIN
Yes, it is possible, but the success of the surgery depends on the commitment of each patient, but the surgery alone helps you lose between 70% and 80% of your body weight.
Likewise, it is necessary for the patient to change his eating and exercise habits so that the change is permanent.
PRE-OPERATIVE STUDIES
Lab work will be done on arrival
Electrocardiogram (ECG) - Depending on age and Up on request by the surgeon *
Chest X-ray - Up on request by the surgeon*
Gastric Bypass
Malabsorption surgery, it is an anatomical modification of the digestive system, in order to limit the amount of food that can be eaten, making the patient feel full after ingesting small amounts.
TECHNIQUE
The surgery is normally performed using a small camera that is placed on the abdomen. A section of the stomach is made, creating a reservoir or "gastric pouch" that is, the small intestine will be connected to the reservoir in order to decrease the absorption of ingested food. Creating two ways to lose weight, one of them is by food restriction and the other by absorption.

Single anastomosis Gastric Bypass
Malabsorption surgery, the gastric mini bypass is a procedure considered mixed since it combines 2 components:
• Restriction (when creating a small and thin stomach)
• Malabsorption (is the creation of a bridge between the stomach and the intestine).
TECHNIQUE
The surgery is performed using a small camera that is placed on the abdomen (laparoscopic surgery).
That is to say that with the mini bypass a small stomach is created that unlike other techniques such as the classic bypass, this small stomach is long and narrow in order to generate a mechanism of restriction or limitation to the amount of food eaten.
RESULTS
Well this depends on each of the patients but the approximate time is in the first week after surgery.

Gastric Balloon
The Gastric Balloon is made of soft silicone, and is literally a balloon, which is inserted into the stomach in a deflated way by means of an endoscope, then by means of a catheter it is filled with sterile solution between 400 and 700cc, leaving a large balloon It takes up space in the stomach producing the feeling of satiety.
TECHNIQUE
The procedure begins with the introduction of the endoscope through the mouth. This is called diagnostic endoscopy, that is, a review of the esophagus, stomach and first portion of the small intestine is performed to verify that there is no alteration in these organs that contraindicates the placement of the intragastric balloon.
Once the normality of the mentioned organs has been corroborated, the intragastric balloon is introduced through the mouth. With the endoscope it is visualized that the ball has been in its correct position.
Inflation of the balloon is continued under direct vision up to the indicated amount. Finally, the balloon inflation tube is removed and everything is verified to be correct and without complications, terminating the procedure.
RESULTS
From the first week.
The weight loss after the placement of the ball is 12kg. Some patients have managed to lose more than 25kg but this value is depending on adherence to the diet and changes in eating habits.
Remember that losing weight will invariably improve your health.
CANDIDATES
Age is one of the factors to consider as well as the aspect of the patient's health, however the placement of the balloon can be performed in adolescents from 16 years of age, as well as in patients not older than 55 years with excellent results .
Most people who have not had stomach surgery, chronic gastritis, gastric ulcers, etc. For this reason, it is advisable to consult with the DR before making any decision. Felipe García Hurtado.
SURGICAL TIME
The surgery time is approximately 1 hr.
HOSPITAL STAY
Hospital stay will be 2 nights.
HEALTH BENEFITS
Yes, if possible, but the success of the placement of the ball depends on your changes in eating habits. However, the patient is advised to change their eating and exercise habits so that the change is permanent.
USAGE
From 6 to 8 months approximately
INDICATIONS
Yes, you will be given a strict diet for two weeks, then you will have to follow your diet with a nutritionist.
SYMPTOMS
Gastric pain or pain from the pit of the stomach, heartburn sometimes experiencing nausea and vomiting.
PRE-OPERATIVE STUDIES
Lab work will be done on arrival
Electrocardiogram (ECG) - Depending on age and Up on request by the surgeon *
